Just uploaded a prototype of a stand-alone version of the renderer I'm calling nXt Studio.  It reads .3dm files, includes a new material model and newish render engine, features an "always rendering"…Continue

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Janne Norokytö's discussion Bigger resolution makes brighter rendering..?
"No open issues that I'm aware of.  The first few passes of the Standard engine can be very unstable wrt lighting.  It can sometimes take 100 passes or more for the thing to settle down-- depends on the scene.  How may passes did…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Philipp's discussion Material Library Issue
"Yes-- we suspect the iCloud software is changing the "low-level locale" of the program-- incredibly bad, viral, behavior.  This can occur whenever you use a system file dialog box, such as a save or open.  The change is causing…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Philipp's discussion Material Library Issue
"It shouldn't have anything to do with it.  We still suspect that this problem is caused by iCloud software-- one or two other users are experiencing this-- mainly European based.  There is a fix-- I'll talk to Scott and check on…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Philipp's discussion Material Library Issue
"Sorry about that-- this one is a big mystery to us too right now.  We may be seeing one other case in AutoCAD.  Please let us know right away if it begins to happen again.  Try to recall what you were doing."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Philipp's discussion Material Library Issue
"Can you recall when the problem started happening?  Did you do anything different to your system such as a Rhino or Flamingo update?  Windows update?"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Philipp's discussion Material Library Issue
"I've seen a couple of these "green" materials turn up recently, both on the AutoCAD side and the Rhino side. They may be related.  I'll pass this on to Scott and see what he can do. "

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Oliver Jones's discussion Pixelation on Glass
"It's not the glass, per se, that's the problem.  What you're seeing is a reflection of an hdr from a flat surface. (Try substituting smooth stainless steel for the glass and you'll see what I mean.)   A higher…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Luis Manuel Pinho's discussion Bands appearing in rendering
"Hi Luis-- This is a procedural wood material which doesn't normally work very well for your type of application.  I'm surprised it has worked at all for you in the past.   These tend to work better for small objects, and even…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to chub's discussion Glass not rendering correctly
"We could investigate further, if you like.  You'd need to send the model, or a portion of it, for us to test."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Rob Ladd's discussion a problem with one of the fillets as seen in the attached images
"Thanks-- I'll look at it in the next couple of days."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Rob Ladd's discussion a problem with one of the fillets as seen in the attached images
"I have a couple of ideas re: what could be going wrong internally-- any chance we could get the model?  If so, and it's too large to attach here, let me know-- I'll get Scott to send you an upload link."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Andrew Nowicki's discussion Flamingo nXt versus AccuRender nXt
"No, sorry, the dwg output in Rhino does not include Flamingo information.  It may be possible to do in the future if there's more interest in it."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Will Sturdy's discussion Sky HDRi Horizon Question
"My best guess-- Scott's got a much wider-angled lens in his shot.  I'm pretty sure your narrow field of view is causing us to zoom in very tight on the HDRI.  This will only work well if the HDRI is very high res.  If this…"

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to Mark Naden's discussion Render resolution limits
"Not that I know of.  Why is such a high resolution required?  Often a tool like photoshop can be used to "upsample " a rendered image.  It's pretty darn rare that 200 million original rendered pixels are required."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to kbwegner's discussion Specifying the proper resolution
"Did you get the second private message?  That link should go right through.  If not, send your dropbox folder ro me privately and I'll try that."

Roy Hirshkowitz replied to kbwegner's discussion Specifying the proper resolution
"I sent you a link to the revised file in a private message.  Let me know when you've got it and I'll pull it off the McNeel site.  I'll ask around for scale figures-- but the ones you've got look great.  A little…"
