Hi George

The ones in this image were Scaley's from Turbo Squid ( Links below.)

They were put in in post in Photoshop, however they could also be done in Rhino if you liked as a decal on  a plane if you take a little extra time. In this case the problem is you can't finetune the image placement until you render, and you can't twek it in post.

If you want to populate a Rhino model with shilhouettes you can see in the modelling window try link below.  ( These ones are mine in Rhino 3 format.)

These aren't as good for foreground figures but they are useful if you are trying to populate a scene with conceptual figures to give scale, that you still need to see clearly during the modelling stage.
