Flamingo nXt

easy rendering for Rhino in Windows

I don't have any problem with materials from Rhino but if I try and use an nXt material on my flag I get strange patterns. I'm missing something.

I've picked surface mapping in the nxt tab of the object's properties.

Here is how I might do this:

  1. Use Pictureframe command to bring in the Flag bitmap.  This will create a nice map on a plane.
  2. Rebuild the surface with 5 control points and degree 3 in both U and V directions.
  3. Edit the control points to deform the flag as if it is waving.  Do not worry too much about the deformation of the graphics on the flag.
  4. Rebuild the surface with 15 control points and degree 3 and getting the correct shape.  This should re-orient the flag graphics with little distortion.

Does that work better for you?

Sorry Scott, just getting back to this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the picture frame is just a rhino material right? I'm not having a problem with that.

What I'd like to do though is use an nXt material on my flag... possible?

You can use a U/V mapped Flamingo decal in the same way with Flamingo.  Or you can use a Flamingo material, with the flag bitmap using the objects U/V Surface mapping as the mapping type.  Wither would work.
