Flamingo nXt

easy rendering for Rhino in Windows

Good morning all,

I got a warning when loading the last version of nXt. My grafic card is not good enough any more.

What are the minimum specifications for Flamingo nXT en Rhino 5?

Thanks

Lex

A true minimum would look like this:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz or AMD equivalent
2 GB RAM
80 GB HD
Open GL Graphics Card
Windows XP

But I expect you are not looking for a true minimum.  To optimize a machine for Flamingo NXT there are a few notes:

NXT is affected by the number of CPU cores.  The more cores the better.  I am a big fan of Quad core machines. I believe there are the best bang for you buck. A rough method estimate of rendering speed can be found by multiplying the number of CPU cores x the Ghz of the CPU.  For instance a 4 core x 3.1 Ghz will have a 12.4 score.  An 8 core 2.4 GHz machine will have a score of 19.2.  The 8 core machine will be 54% faster.  This works best when comparing similair chipsets. Roy runs a 12 core machine.

The 2 GB limit of 32-bit machines is currently the biggest limiter to renderings.  I would recommend a 64-bit system using Windows 7 and 6-12 GB of RAM. Rhino 5 and NXT will run well in 64-bit.

Graphics card speed does not affect Flamingo NXT.  but, of course graphics card speed does affect how fast Rhino feels. Nvidia Quadro cards are my favorite.

I hope this helps.
