Flamingo nXt

easy rendering for Rhino in Windows

OK so I'm trying to do some rendering cutaway-style.... nXt lighting still considers the the geometry that's hidden by the clipping planes when doing lighting.

Is there any way to light the scene as if the clipping plane had actually removed the geometry?

If you want to render the model as if it is open, then you need to actually cut the object away.  I normally use a cutting object and the Boolean Split command.

Oi. The problem is lots of the geometry is linked blocks (structural, plumbing/electrical layouts, hardware that falls on the clip line, etc.)

So I guess we give up on that idea. I don't want to get into trying to light all the cavities between structural elements and inside cabinets and lockers etc.
