Flamingo nXt

easy rendering for Rhino in Windows

frosted glass effect with contents showing through

I am having one heck of a time trying to replicate this effect of frosted glass with translucency where the contents color bleeds through.  Seems to be conflict between translucency, transparency and index of refraction.   I do not want to have high index because I want the internal "vessel" part not to look distorted.
Here is an enclosed picture of the effect I am trying to get (frosted glass votive) and the Rhino model and unsucessful render.
This application would be for a perfume bottle where the outer bottle is thick wall and cast frosted glass and the contents is a subtle color like green tea.

Anyway thanks for taking a look.

Unlimately this is a Sub-surface Scattering effect.  Flamingo NXT does not have SSS yet.  THe more advanced renderers such as Brazil and Maxwell do.  It is an effect that is very sensitive to scale and lighting.

The closest you can get in Flamingo NXT is the Translucency slider.  You can see there is a discussion on the AccuRender forum about the effect.

Frosted Glass Discussion

I need to check that we have it implimented correctly in Flamingo.  I will research that this afternoon.  I will use your model to see what I can come up with.

It seems that we have an additional Material characterisitc we can use that we do not have in Flamingo yet.  We will try and get blurriness in the Flamingo build so you can try this frosted effect.  It will also help with your sandblasted glass you are trying on the Glass Block.

Hi,

See whether these two attempst are helpful!

Try 3 has a white texture map added which I will also attach. Please find 2 3dm files attached with different settings for frosted glas and the liquid I used.

Also pics with just a few passes using try3 and try4

The renders should clean up nicely doing a few more passes

Hope this will help
